Mabinogi Heroes/Vindicus

by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Previews

One of the games which I’m really looking forward to this year is Mabinogi Heroes(Named Vindictus in America). It’s in beta in Korea but it’s going to be released in north America this year. It by nexon BTW and we all know nexon restricts games in other countries by IP. Since I don’t live in north America I’ll have to use a VPN to play it, which means that I’m going to have a lag of abt 500ms which is like half a second and that’s huge for an mmo.
The two things that I really apreciate about vindictus are the graphics and the fighting style. The graphics are simply amazing. There’s no comparison. I’ve never seen an mmo with such great graphics. The extensive use of HDR lighting is Ming boggling. Prepare to get eye candy which will make ur eyes bleed. (continue reading…)

Allods Online

by admin on Aug.10, 2010, under Reviews

Recently I’ve been playing a lot of Allods. Allods online is a f2p mmorpg which looks and feels a lot like World of Warcraft. It’s developed and maintained by the russians but a North American(and European) version is also published by GPotato(NA EU).
In terms of graphics, Allods is a bit better than WoW. The graphics seem to be improving each patch gradually. I dont think its a DX10 or DX11 game but it beats the DX11 LOTRo in terms of eye candy, eventhough (continue reading…)

AIKA

by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Previews

AIKA is an mmo by gPotato. Don’t be fooled by the substandard name of the producer because this game is actually pretty high quality. Currenty under open beta, AIKA sports excellent graphics and an extremely engaging pran and social system. Actually graphics of this game are the bet among all the mmo’s that I’ve played so far. Of course Vindictus has better graphics but vindictus isn’t out yet. (continue reading…)

Perfect world is a very sort of famous f2p game from perfect world entertainment. It’s one of the oldest f2p mmo’s out there. I played the international version and found it to be pretty good….  Well, for the first few levels. (continue reading…)

Battlefield Heroes

by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Reviews

I’ve been playing battlefield heroes. It’s an online first person shooter by EA. The game is ok in my opinion. It’s not one of the best mmo’s out there but it’s a fun to play for short spans of time. (continue reading…)

Dungeons and Dragons

by admin on Jan.04, 2010, under Reviews

The past week I’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons online. It’s by the same people who run Lord of the Rings online. If you were(by any chance), a fan of the fantasy genre, you might remember the D&D gamebooks and board games and all. DDO converted to a free to play model last year with the introduction of eberron unlimited.

Dungeons and Dragons online

I tried out the turbine download manager to install DDO. One of the big advantages of using this download manager is that you can play while you download.

One of the first things I noticed is that turning your character is a bit strange. This problem can be solved by pressing ‘T’ and moving using the mouse but then you’ll have trouble picking up items. This can, of course, all be solved by changing the key mappings. The game mechanics of DDO are a little different from World of Warcraft. You pick up a quest and then enter a sort of instance where you carry out the quest unlike WoW, where quests take place in an open world. The fighting system is sort of real time like in non MMO action games but the catch is that the hits depend on <surprise><surprise> dice rolls like in Dungeons and Dragons board games(gamebooks).

The graphics are great with Direct X 10 support and all. They’re actually nothing in comparison to the upcoming Final Fantasy MMO but still they’re probably the best compared to any other MMORPG present at the moment.

Plus, you don’t have to be guilty playing on a private server. I’m playing as “Aniq” on the Cannith server.
